Welcome to Endless Autumn Day 2!
hey friend! Paul here! We hosted an Endless Autumn kickoff livestream when we first started this whole thing... maybe you caught it (rewatch here!). We'll host a "closing ceremonies" soon too, we'll let you know about that!
I started writing today's song of the day, Animal, after a routine eye exam turned into a trippy meaning of life conversation. “Isn’t that why we have kids?”, my optometrist said to me from across the exam room. “So we don’t have to die alone?” I guess I’d never heard it put quite that bluntly or selfishly. But to his point, I can't tell you how many times in chatting about current events, I hear the refrain, "so why are we bringing children into this world?" I guess I'd like to think it's because we feel a deep-seated desire to nurture. I drove home chewing on the unexpected conversation. And where I landed, after talking with Tim, is that we forget what all species must feel on some level: that love encapsulates all of it - motivations selfish and pure, the personal fear and the protectiveness towards others. It is a means of joy and also a means of survival. Love is not a human concept. Love is the animal inside.
Tall Heights Guided Breathing Meditation
zen out to sounds we made, and voice-over by us
On the road we use breathing practices to both keep our minds right, AND to improve our singing apparatuses. It feels SO good, and it really helps us sing out. We do 2 rounds of this particular breathing exercise 10 minutes before EVERY show we play.
Caution: don't do heavy breathing while driving or anywhere where fainting would be a big concern. Get cozy in a soft, safe place.

Journaling Prompt :
“We walk alone into that night.” Think about that quote and then go ahead and wax existential. Just write, and don’t stop. If you get stuck on a word, don’t think, just keep writing that word until the flow returns. We’re trying to give your subconscious a chance to speak without the filter of your social conscious brain. This is just for you, let it flow. If you need a kick start, read verse 2 of the song, about how the love we feel is, perhaps, just an animal instinct towards not being alone... Why do you love? Why do we love?
I sat in the doctor’s chair, looked straight into the light.
I asked if he had a family, and what was his aim in life?
He said we’re all calling out to have someone at our side
holding our bedside hand, but we walk alone into that night.
We walk alone into that night.
We just pay up, walk out, and drive on home.
Brother, can you feel the one-way road?

1). Custom Wood Burning - $1700
"Love is the Animal" wood burning (12" x 8" burning on basswood), by our best pal and manager, Devin Mauch.
If you don't know him, check out The Wild Electric for more of his stuff.

We collaborated with Dev on this design, discussing how we might capture the essence of this song in an image. We wanted an animal that is emblematic of both New England, AND the love grappled with in the song. A mother bear and her cubs just felt like the perfect marriage of these things. I think the leadership of the mother bear, the carefree innocence of the cubs just says something so profound about the love the we humans extend to one another. It's instinctual.
